Sofia Lobato
Sofia Lobato was born in 1987, in Lisbon. After graduating in Painting and Illustration from the Camberwell School of Arts in London, her paintings and illustrations have appeared in national and international publications, books and projects. She has participated in exhibitions in Portugal, China, the UK, and the USA. In 2020 she received an Award of Excellence by the Communication Arts magazine, two honorable mentions by American Illustration and Creative Quarterly, and was selected by the Society of Illustrators and the 3x3 magazine. She is represented in China by Ampersand Globe Agency.
Sofia Lobato works are characterized by thin and delicate lines, as well as realistic depictions of surreal objects and scenes, creating a detailed image. Most of Sofia’s works are about the fantastic, bringing a dreamlike visual experience to the audiences. She usually works with ink on watercolor paper, using very fine lines with a calligraphy pen or Japanese calligraphy brushes. Her colored paintings are done with acrylics or oil, where she aims to achieve the same quality of detail as in her big ink drawings.
